Singing without the rain

My wife and I are enrolled in another round of singing.  We actually sing in a choir if you can believe it.  We are members of the Sage Valley Voices choir based out of Oliver BC.  The choir puts on two shows a year.  There is a Christmas concert and a spring concert.  Along side these two shows we normally perform a gig or two for other events that occur near concert time.

The choir is made up mostly of seniors.  In fact, you can normally see three generations of my family in the choir.  I sing, my mother sings, and my grandfather sings as well.  This is the part that I most enjoy about singing in this choir.  It is a way for me to connect with my grandfather.  It gives us something to talk about and something to bond over.  I also get to see him once a week.  I feel it is important to not loose contact with extended family.  I also think he has a bit of pride that his grandson is singing next to him.

As far as I am concerned the real star of the show is my wife.  Those of you who know us know my wife can sing.  She honestly gives me goosebumps every time.  Now I watch American Idol once and a while.  I know the dangers of praising people who really can’t sing.  I can honestly say my wife can sing and she does it very well.  If you have any doubts, come check out the Sage Valley Voices and see for yourself.

There are two shows for the spring concert, May 2nd and 3rd.  Check back here for show times and venue information.  I also normally create a facebook event so keep your eyes open for that as well.

  1. You are right Brad, she can sing. She always could. She is brilliant.

  2. Hi Brad:

I was googling “Sage Valley Voices” for information to add to a new blog I’m helping to get started for the Oliver Community Arts Council (the Voices are one of our member groups) and wound up here at your blog! I’ve just uploaded a short article about the choir with a couple of pictures at the arts council website (www.oliverartscoucil.org), and I’m informing a few choir members about it so they can check it over for errors or missing information. Since I’m here, I thought I’d let you and Tamara know.

Check us out for arts information or to pass on news to us about the choir. The Sahge Valley Voices will be listed under the category “Member Groups”, under “Arts Jam” (Events Listing), and on the Calendar and Upcoming! pages. Please pass the link on to others you think might be interested in the Oliver arts.

Enjoyed the Christmas concert – break a leg at the spring concert this weekend!
