Wii woes

This whole Wii Fit gig is harder then I thought.  My first problem is the weigh-in.  Apparently my weight can shift plus of minus 5 pounds with ease.  It is very hard to figure out if I am loosing weight.  I would have to weigh myself at the same time every night wearing the same clothes to get an accurate reading.  This is hard to do.  Sometimes I can get my workout done before dinner and sometimes I have to wait until after.  This means that sometimes I haven’t eaten since noon and other times I have eaten an hour or two before.  So that is my first dilemma.  My weigh-ins have been going up and down like a yo-yo.

Second problem is drive.  It is hard to keep myself doing this.  Last week I missed working out on Friday.  We had dinner at a friend’s house and didn’t get home until late.  I did work out Sunday evening to make up for it but still I had already missed the goal I had set for myself.  This week was not good.  Tuesday I was busy cooking dinner and they DMing our weekly D&D session so it wasn’t until 11:00pm I had stuff cleaned up.  So I missed it Tuesday.  Wednesday I had ample opportunity to work out, I just didn’t do it.  I just couldn’t motivate myself.  I did get back on the horse last night though.  I really didn’t want to.  I felt very discouraged.  I do have to say I feel better today knowing that I did it.  My abs would tell you otherwise but I do feel good.

I know the workouts I am doing are not really intense or require too much effort but it is just so easy to sit on the couch and watch one more show.  While the idea of using a video game to train with is good, it can get boring.  I think that may be part of my problem with exercise in general.  I find it all very boring.  It isn’t fun for me.  I was hoping this would make it more fun but it really hasn’t grabbed me.  I am going to continue with this as I know I need the exercise but it is a struggle.  I hope something clicks with me and I start to look forward to it instead of dreading it.  If anyone has pointers or comments please post.

  1. Okay Brad, I have been having the same problem.
But I am going to appeal to our competative nature (I have none, but maybe you do).
I will take your challenge, 30 min a day 5 days a week.
Let see who can put in the time and who puts in excuses….
Hint, if you don’t have time for the full 30 min before dinner just do the fit test before dinner then the training later. Do the fit test every morning, training later…..wait why am I helping you.

  2. I find the rythym boxing most fun right now.

  3. Yeah I like it but I find it hard to dodge right now. I am not sure how to work it. But I like the idea of beating the crap out of my flab.

  4. No excersise is really fun…and I always have a hard time finding motivation. However, once you are done the feeling afterwards makes it all worth it. Don’t beat yourself up because you missed a workout, just start fresh again the new day. Everyday is a new day, so just try again. You can do it bro.. just don’t be so hard on yourself! XO

  5. The trick to dodging, is to move your hands to the side, more than your body, and hold it until after you are swung at. I still get hit, but less often.

  6. What frustrates me about Wii fit is the pauses in between everything. To show the standings, etc. your 30 min becomes 57, and you don’t really getto keep your heart rate up for very long.

  7. Yeah it isn’t the same as going to a gym but at least it is simple and can be done in your home. It is also a lot less bulky then a treadmill. I am really looking for a solution I can just stick into my daily routine. Maybe when it warms up a bit I may try to start jogging at least part way home from work. I would jog to work as well but I don’t think the lady who sits next to me would like to hang out next to a sweaty person all day long. And with my amount of body hair I am sure I would start smelling like a wet dog sooner or later. Ha! Good morning with that mental image!

  8. Have you tried DDR. I love it. As soon as I am feeling better I am going to add it in. Right now, my floors are being redoen, taking a little longer than expected, and I had wicked food poisoning yesterday, so today I am lucky to have the strength to type. But someday…
